We all have days when we feel “blah” and like we’d rather not face the day. But what about those days when we are more than just a little tired, when the thought of “finding strength in weakness” seems unrealistic? There are so many verses in the Bible, but today I want to focus on my favorite top 10 Bible verses for women like you and me.
After strenuous seasons in life, we can find ourselves depleted and wondering if we have what it takes to be a fruitful disciple of Christ. The lies of the Enemy come to steal, kill, and destroy our resolve to be courageous women of God.
Below is a list of my top 10 Bible verses to reflect on to encourage women facing weakness.
Please tell me I’m not alone as a woman who feels weak sometimes. If you struggle with this, please leave a comment. Let’s encourage one another!
1. 2 Corinthians 12:9–10
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, The Apostle Paul tells us that Jesus told him that His grace“is sufficient”. This is a present tense verb that serves to remind us that He is with us in the moment of our weakness.
No matter how dire, how difficult, or how overwhelming our circumstances may be, His grace is here, now, available and ready.
His grace is our strength and is enough to meet any need we have and to see us to the end of the difficulty. It’s a complete grace that’s powerful in and of itself.
This power is of Jesus and means we can do impossibly hard things because Jesus is with us and He has more than enough power to see that His plan for our lives is completed. He gets the glory as we experience His strength.
2. Psalm 103:13–14
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers
The psalmist compares us to dust; worthless and no good. But says God remembers this about us and loves us anyway. He loves us compassionately and tenderly.
He made us and He knows how we are formed. Therefore, do not let anyone- not even yourself- tell you that you are worthless. You are worth more to God than the dust of the earth. He cherishes you.
3. 1 Corinthians 1:26–29
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
God chose us because we are weak, because we are without understanding of His high and holy ways. All through the Old Testament, the prophets would speak to this intrigue.
Why does God choose us? So that the world will know that it is He who made us and not we ourselves.
4. Romans 15:1–3
We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”
It goes against our nature to leave an offense undefended. It goes against the will of our flesh to walk aways when we know we are right. We want to win every argument and battle.
But in Christ, we can lay down our self will, our need to be right, to defend our cause. As a believer in Christ, we must grow in our relationship with Him to the point that we are compassionate for the weak in faith and their failings.
We are called upon to help, encourage, and support others. Not to make a name for ourselves. And if ridicule comes our way from the weak or those who misunderstand the ways of Christ, then those words and attitudes fall on Jesus. He is our defender and our strength.
5. 2 Corinthians 11:30
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.
We all like to tell others what we know, what we can do, how we can lead. This is fine in a job interview, but in real life, no. When we boast of all the great things we can do, we minimize the fact that there is yet attention needed.
We all need encouragement from the Bible to see us through our weakest moments; mentally, physically, and spiritually.Children on a playground try to up each other with skills and cool tricks, but as an adult, we must put away childish actions and attitudes. We point others to Jesus, not ourselves.
6. Romans 5:6
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
Before we knew we needed rescue, salvation, forgiveness, Jesus planned to die for us. The grace of Jesus is “previous”, planned and prepared before the beginning of time. Planned for the right time when we would realize we are nothing apart from Him. For me, this is a very encouraging scripture.
7. Hebrews 4:15–16
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Because Jesus came to live among mankind, He is able to know exactly how we feel in any and every circumstance. There is no pain he hasn’t felt, no weakness he hasn’t experienced.
In light of this knowledge, we can go to him with everything. Our disappointments, our brokenness, our fractured hearts, and our racing thoughts.
In Christ, we find mercy and grace.
8. Romans 8:26–27
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
“O God, help me! I don’t know what to do!” were the only words my mind and mouth could form.
In moments we can’t articulate our thoughts and feelings we can find comfort and encouragement in knowing that the Holy Spirit will speak on my behalf to our Father in heaven. The Spirit searches our hearts and communicates what we have no words for.
9. Isaiah 40:28–31
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Waiting on God can seem impossible.We measure our waiting on an earthly clock and calendar system while God is working from an eternal perspective.
I love this passage because it reveals that God’s ability is exactly opposite from my inability. I am a woman who experiences weakness, He does not.And when we wait, trust, hope in the Lord, we will see His lordship and will acknowledge His sovereignty.
10. Matthew 11:28–30
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus had no home, no place to call His own, so this open invitation of welcome may seem strange. Yet, this is what drew so many weary souls to Him. He is home, our peace and safety.
He is where we find comfort, rest, and hope. He takes on our worries, fears, and anxiety. He takes up our heavy heartedness and lightens our load.
These 10 Bible verses I’ve shared are meant to encourage you, to inspire you, and to point you to the fact that you may feel weak, but in Christ, you are strong because He is stronger.
Tell me. Which of the verses above speak deeply to you? Are you facing a difficult situation right now? How can I pray for you?
